Highest demands on fabrics and pads

Brightly coloured to suit every taste. With a large selection of textiles in the new fabric sample folder, everyone can design their own aids according to their individual taste. At the same time, Schuchmann is one of the first manufacturers in the industry to meet the requirements of the new European Medical Device Regulation (MDR).

Aids are companions. They accompany children and young people for many hours, every day. Whether in school or nursery, during therapy or at leisure. The strain on upholstery and fabrics is particularly high. But they still have to look elegant and work after long periods of use.

“When choosing our textiles and materials, we pay close attention to standards that are common in the high-quality textile industry or required by medical device manufacturers. In doing so, we automatically meet the requirements of MDR – therefore the highest quality standards!”, says Nadine Depenbrock, clothing technician at Schuchmann. The tested materials are therefore perfectly suitable as preliminary materials, for example for medical supply stores that implement special constructions or individual adjustments for their customers.

Schuchmann aid textiles are practical, elegant and safe

Straight seat and back surfaces, straps or supporting textiles must meet the highest hygienic standards. Due to the nature of the surfaces and the woven structure, they should protect against contact skin damage as well as against dirt. The outer materials are designed to be removable and washable at 40 degrees Celsius. “What’s new is that every removable pad will be provided with a care label in the future. This provides information about the composition and instructions for care,” says Depenbrock. Such a label is not compulsory in Europe at present.

Schuchmann is prepared

Years ago, the company set its own standards for the origin and quality of the materials used. Renowned manufacturers supply the outer fabrics, which are also used in the automotive industry. For example, the materials that serve as a preliminary product for the covers and upholstery of therapy chairs, etc., are tested according to the standard DIN EN 1021-1 + 2 and can thus be described as flame retardant. “The same applies to the materials used, which consist of the registered Trevira CS brand fibre – it simply does not burn,” says Nadine Depenbrock. Several fabrics also comply with the Öko-Tex Standard 100. At the same time, all materials used are scratch-resistant and have been tested for their bio-compatibility – safe use through unrestricted skin compatibility of the fabrics.
