The Schuchmann team donates to the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank

At Christmas time, our customers and suppliers traditionally delight us with the most wonderful Christmas presents and little gifts. Often, some departments received such generous gifts that they couldn’t possibly get through the mountain of calories and delicacies on their own. And so it has become a much-loved tradition to raffle off the gifts. This year, the proceeds will go to the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank.

Tickets with a high chance of winning

Once the festive season is over, Schuchmann's colleagues can buy tickets for one euro each. An automated online generator then selects the winners and the prizes are distributed swiftly, so that the team’s calorie requirements are quickly met again. The chances of winning are always high, even if that isn’t our team’s main concern when buying tickets 🙂

For a charitable cause

There are many good causes. Many institutions, clubs and aid organisations rely on donations. Choosing where the money should go is therefore not always easy. We have previously donated to the CKO and KidsCare, and for many years also to the Osnabrück Children’s Hospice. This year, we are directing our staff donation to the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank.

One in four children in Germany has no lunch to take to school

This is the shocking finding of the representative study ‘Food Poverty Research’. And this is where the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank comes in. In cooperation with schools in the city and district of Osnabrück, it is taking the fight to empty lunchboxes. The Children’s Food Bank supplies the necessary food so that the children can start the day on the right foot. The schools themselves then take charge of putting the meals together. This ensures that provision is tailored to needs and that no child has to go to school hungry. The daily provision of fresh ingredients for packed lunches, fruit and other healthy foods is a vital step towards improving children’s nutritional intake and offers them a sense of normality and security in their everyday school life.

More than just food: promoting educational opportunities

Beyond providing food, the work of the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank aims to instil a sense of security and stability. Thanks to a regular and reliable supply of food, the children can concentrate better on their schoolwork and enjoy their childhood with greater peace of mind.

580 euros for the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank

This year’s tombola raised 580 euros, which we were delighted to hand over to the chairman, Hermann Große-Marke. Whilst we were there, Mr Große-Marke took the time to show us round a little and tell us about their day-to-day work. It quickly became clear that our donation is in very good hands here! We learnt that the food costs for the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank in Osnabrück alone amount to around 6,000 euros. Thanks to our donation, part of this will now be covered. We also learnt that around 300 volunteers are currently helping out and that the Osnabrück Children’s Food Bank is celebrating its 30th anniversary this summer.

Information about the Children’s Food Bank

The Osnabrück Food Bank is a charity that supports people in need through food donations. Its main aim is to save food and distribute it to those who need it. The Food Bank relies on donations and can only pass on what generous individuals and organisations contribute. The focus is on obtaining food that is still safe and edible despite having passed its best-before date. In this way, they help to reduce food waste and enable people in need to enjoy a balanced diet.

The food bank strives to support people in difficult life situations, regardless of their social background. Its doors are open to anyone who needs help. The food bank is not a facility where food is prepared on site; its role is more akin to that of a distribution centre. Donated food is collected, stored and efficiently distributed to those in need.

It works closely with supermarkets, producers and other donors to secure these valuable resources. However, it is not possible to offer food in the same way as in a conventional shop. The Osnabrück Food Bank plays a vital role for people in need. Its work ensures that salvaged food is made available to those who urgently need it. The work involves complex logistics, which require considerable resources and financial support. The annual costs amount to around 700,000 euros.
