Behind our products are people who give their very best every day with passion, precision, and dedication — whether at their computers, at the workbench, or out on the road supporting you on site. To help you get to know the faces behind our products better, we introduce a new member of the Schuchmann team every month under the motto “Three Questions for”.
Today’s spotlight is on our lovely colleague René Althaus.
René has been with Schuchmann for over 26 years. Alongside his role as the head of field service, he completed a degree in Neuroorthopaedics and Disability Management at the University for Continuing Education in Krems and, having successfully completed his Master’s thesis this year, now holds the title of Master of Science.
In his Master’s thesis, entitled ‘Effects of inclination angle and joint angles on weight bearing in supine standers in children with cerebral palsy’, he investigated whether a therapeutically beneficial load is possible in cases of restricted joint extension. You can find the study and the publications here.
1. What is the one thing new colleagues at Schuchmann absolutely need to know that isn’t in any handbook?
At Schuchmann, we have the privilege of being able to make a tangible difference to the lives of children with disabilities and their families through our work.
Our therapy equipment is far more than just products. When used correctly and as early as possible, it can have a positive impact on children’s development, promote skills, enable participation and ease the burden on families in their everyday lives.
For me, this is precisely where the special value of our work lies: we don’t simply sell aids; we help to improve quality of life and opportunities for development.
2. What are you particularly proud of?
I am particularly proud to have completed the Master’s programme in ‘Neuroorthopaedics and Disability Management’ whilst working. I am especially pleased that my Master’s thesis, written in collaboration with my fellow student Dr Eva Steindl, has resulted in two scientific publications.
For me, this represents a special combination of professional experience and academic research, with the aim of gaining new insights that can ultimately improve the care provided to children with disabilities.
3. What makes you happy at work?
For more than 26 years, it has brought me joy to work alongside childcare professionals, therapists and colleagues to develop solutions that genuinely help children and their families. I particularly value the spirit of trust and collaboration, which has fostered many friendships over the years.
Thank you, René, for giving us the chance to get to know you better and for your daily commitment and the expertise you bring to Schuchmann.
